ADAPTIVE MORPHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF WHITE-FLOWERED CARNATIONS OF THE NORTH CAUCASUS AND THEIR TAXONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE

Abstract

The article presents the biomorphological peculiarities of eight white-fl owered species of Dianthus L. carnations (D. awaricus Charadze, D. arenarius L., D. daghestanicus Charadze, D. cretaceus Adam, D. elbrusensis Charadze, D. fragrans Adam, D. jaroslavii Galuscko, D lanceolatus Stev. ex Reichenb.) of the North Caucasus of various geographical origin. The obtained results indicate that the natural and climatic conditions affect the size of the stems, the shape of the petals, the shape and size of the calyx, the types of marigolds, the shape and degree of dissection of the leaf blades, and other characteristics. Each of the studied species is characterized by certain adaptive features, the variability of which largely depended on the confl uence of plants to different altitudes above sea level. It was concluded that the most persistent and having taxonomic signifi cance are the features of generative organs: the size of the capsule and calyx, the shape and degree of dissection of the petal plate, as well as the number, shape, size of the bracts.
